Dolan Road
the road home...
Like most California beach breaks, where I surf tends to blow out late in the morning or early afternoon, with a few notable exceptions. This is especially true in the spring, when the morning wind swells can be really fun but are followed by vigorous ocean breezes later in the day.
Dolan Road is one of my ways home and there's a nice ridge on the north side that has a few scattered oaks along its topmost edge. When a springtime storm begins to break up and the winds stream in from the ocean, the waves are bad but the visuals are dynamic and compelling.
In this image, I've tried to capture the flow of wind as it brushes the hillside grasses, sways the trees and sends the clouds reeling through the sky, capturing speed and flow into a single, still and meditative moment.
