Trestles Backside Turn

It all started when...

At one point in my life, I did photography for Surfer and Surfing magazines. One summer, I came down to shoot pictures at the US Championships at Huntington Beach. In the afternoon, I walked into Trestles to see if I could get some good images late in the day. The afternoon sun shines into the lefts at Trestles and there was a solid swell, providing good speed and power. I took the resulting image and used that as the starting point for this more expressive and impressionistic interpretation of the action, trying to convey the speed and the multi-sensory feel for carving deeply into a turn on an overhead wave.
