Images, Meaning and Visual Poetics

When you explore these pages, you’re participating in a creative effort unlike anything you’ve experienced before. My intention is unique and so are my skills. It might not be for everyone but it’s good and I believe in it. For me, someone who spent so much time tormented by doubts and anxieties, this is a bold statement.

I have visions in my head and poems in my heart. What you find here is a unique hybrid of technique and meaning, visions, ideas, movement, poetry and song, inspired most notably by the Surrealist and Symbolist writers and artists. There are obvious inferences of Surrealism but that’s not the full truth of this offering. You’ll find connections to many different ideas, Freudian, Jungian and Buddhist and the Firesign Theater. More importantly, those influences are avenues to the a fascinating realm of experience apart from conventional ideas of meaning and representation.

I draw, paint, and assemble these works as hybrids of digital and traditional techniques. Whether you think this is grand or grandiose, one thing is for sure, nobody has meaning to offer quite like what you encounter here.

The images are illustrations for poetic ideas. The poems are the basis for short, experimental animations. The animations are an amalgam of creative influences I’ve integrated throughout my life. I’ve drawn, written, recorded and produced what you hear. My poetic influences range from William Blake to W.S. Merwin, including the influence of Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Adrienne Rich and James Dickey among others. The visuals come from Magritte, Max Ernst, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock and a myriad of experimental animators I’ve seen throughout the years.

My goal is to make work that changes how your experience your life, work that invites you to explore beneath the surface and know all the layers of what our perceptual universe has to offer.

This work, when completed, will offer a visual and poetic integration of skill, depth, awareness and transformation. At least, that’s the plan.
